Campaign to remove illegal billboards from September 15: Mayor Atik
Sharif Shaon: The mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) said the use of illegal billboards, signboards, banners, festoons, project signs and shop signs was depriving the city of its beauty as well as DNCC revenue. All concerned are being requested to get the approval from the revenue department of DNCC on their own initiative.
Atiqul Islam said the deadline for approval was September 14. Otherwise, mobile courts and evictions will be conducted from September 15 to remove them.
The mayor said many people in the DNCC area are illegally advertising by putting up billboards. Many businesses, real estate companies and other organizations are using shop signs, project signs, signboards, Panaflex, banners, festoons etc. Some are using signboards larger than the prescribed size. Again each store is using multiple signboards instead of one.
He said immediate auction activities would continue to remove illegally placed construction materials and other installations on sidewalks and roads. Mass notifications will be disseminated through miking and mass media to make the public aware of these issues.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said this in a virtual meeting at 11:30 am on Friday. Edited by Raihan Rajiv
