NASA released rare pictures, videos and audio, the first time the world heard the sound of Mars
Lihan Lima: NASA has released new images, videos and audios of the spacecraft Perseverance Rover landing on Mars. In that video of 3 minutes and 25 seconds, the soft sound of the wind of Mars was heard. The Guardian, Daily Mail, AP
The video begins 230 seconds after Percy enters the Martian atmosphere. At that time the speed of the spacecraft was 12 thousand miles per hour. A 60-foot-diameter parachute is used to reduce the short-lived challenge speed before landing.
The video shows a desert-like surface. There are big holes. As the spacecraft approached Mars from a distance of 20 meters, dust began to fly from the surface of the planet. As it approached the surface, the rover’s eight wheels began to open, and within seconds the rover landed on Mars.
“These videos are awesome,” said Michael Watkins, director of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. We’ve all been watching these videos for the last two days. ‘
After landing, 25 navigation cameras mounted on Perseverance’s head took pictures of Mars. Two microphones have identified the sound.
Percy will collect samples and data to find out the existence of life on Mars for the next ten years. But it will never return to earth. Another spacecraft will be sent back to Mars in 2028, which will bring the collected samples of Percy to Earth in 2030.
