The BNP has called a half-hour strike on Sunday (October 18) to protest the by-election in the Naogaon-6 constituency. At a press conference at the BNP office in Naogaon’s Atrai Thana around 3:30 pm on Saturday, BNP candidate Sheikh Rezaul Islam Rezur announced a boycott of the election, alleging various irregularities including ‘lack of environment, occupation of the center’ during the by-election in Naogaon-6 constituency.
Meanwhile, the ruling Awami League candidate has won the by-election of Naogaon-6 parliamentary seat by a huge margin. Anwar Hossain (Helal). He was declared the winner in a private result on Saturday night (October 18). Earlier, polling began at 9am on Saturday in Dhaka-5 comprising two parliamentary constituencies Jatrabari and Kadamtali and Naogaon-6 comprising Raninagar and Atrai upazilas.
Voting starts at 9 am and continues till 5 pm. Electronic voting machine (EVM) voting was held in both the constituencies. A total of three candidates contested in Naogaon-6 constituency. They are- Md. Of Awami League. Anwar Hossain (Helal), BNP Sheikh Mohammad. Rezaul Islam and the National People’s Party. Khandaker Intekhab Alam.
